I'm not too keen on the labels game. I enjoy working (and playing) with sound and light though i wouldn't say those things define me;
I guess i'm a human, which, among other things, means i'm inconsistent, and flawed- some days i'm a musician, other days a photographer, some days i make films, other days i wonder if i'll ever create anything again.
I was born in London in 1984, struggled with school a lot, dropped out of university twice and finally stumbled into youth work in 2005. I met some incredible people whilst there (old and young) who helped me to re-evolve into someone i'd forgotten how to be. I'd also started composing music around that time, usually staying behind after work to play on the neglected piano in the corner of one of our youth group's rooms. I'd spend hours there.
In 2007 I was diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome
, something that had defined me since i was a little boy, something i thought was universally exclusive to me. To say the diagnosis was a relief would be to massively understate things. the way i see it - humans crave rhythm and order, we collapse without it.. Tourette's, for me, is exactly those cravings, just amplified. Music is one of the few things that satisfies those cravings and (briefly) brings me stillness. Photography has a similarly calming effect on me, i suppose that's why i love it too. (Film, as rhythmic combination of light and sound, incorporates all the above and once again ticks all the boxes)
In 2010 I became an intern at Cargo Records
(briefly), there I met a guy called Jolan - he encouraged me to stop chasing perfection and to just release my music as and where it was (within reason). I owe a lot to that guy.
The following year I completed an Art Foundation course at the University of Arts London, i made a short film about an insomniac and a compulsive writer- the girl, the boy & the rest
. In retrospect I think it was my way of saying goodbye to London, which i did.
now.. all i know is what i like, where i've been and where i don't want to be.
If you'd like to get in touch, for whatever reason - collaboration / commission / say hi - you'd be more than welcome to do so:
